Thinking about gifting a sweater? Consider a cardigan!

We know that clothing is a matter of taste so, to gift a cardigan sweater to a family member or a friend you’d probably have to find out if the potential recipient of the present likes to wear a cardigan. We understand that is not always an easy task but we can give you some pointers and suggestions on how to go about that. Unlike other kinds of sweaters, cardigans are unique in such a way that they come in a variety of shapes and sizes as well as fabrics and colors. This makes that unique gift selection so much easier. There are thin, thick, shawl, duster, double-breasted, cropped, and various other styles that come in cashmere, cotton, blend, and various other editions. You can choose them with an open front, zip-up or button-up, small, or large buttons, monograms, patches, and patterns, and so on. So, cardigans certainly give you ample options to select one for everyone in your life.

Also, we know it is a gift season but sometimes we buy sweaters for various occasions, from weddings and birthdays to graduations. Finding out what kind of cardigan our gift recipient likes is not always an easy task but some tips we share here can help you select the right one.

THINGS TO WATCH FOR WHEN BUYING A CARDIGAN FOR A GIFT:

PAY ATTENTION TO THE SIZE 

You don’t want to buy a cardigan and then find out that the person you are gifting it to is a size smaller or larger. Thickness and knitting style of the cardigan are the two most important factors when it comes to the overall fit of the garment. Try to find out the size of the gift recipient.

LOOSE vs TIGHT FIT

It is always safer to buy a sweater that has an athletic fit and adheres to the body than a cardigan that will make your friend look frumpy. Perhaps going with a thin or a ribbed cardigans is a safer choice. Of course, knowing whether or not your giftee is an athletic type or not will make a cardigan hunt much easier.

COLOR

Gifting a cardigan of a certain style that someone likes but not getting the color right is a loss for both. Do your best to try to find out what colors your potential cardigan recipient likes. Cardigans, out of all sweater types, come in the widest array of colors, sometimes this can make selection more difficult but, we hope that some sample colors on our site can make that job a lot easier. 

ZIP-UP OR BUTTON UP FRONT

This should hopefully be an easy thing to find out. Perhaps you can recall a favorite casual top from the giftee’s closet and determine his or her preference that way. Choosing darker shade buttons, like brown, dark blue or black, for example, will make the cardigan match up easier with the shoes or certain color ties. Ribbed cardigan are popular amongst men and women but the zip-up front ones are worn more by men. So, if your giftee is a lady, go with the feminine button option. 

FABRIC/YARN

Would the gift recipient like a cashmere or merino wool cardigan, or perhaps a thin cotton one? Finding that out is not an easy task but all these factors could help you select the right gift.
